Yesterday, July 13, went fishing with a new friend and he took me to his little piece of Heaven. We fished a remarkable small stream on private property, deep in the back country. The weather was partly cloudy with air temps in the 80's. A welcome relief from previous days in the 90's and 100's. Brashears Creek is a tributary of the Salt River and flows cool and clear over limestone and granite substrate. The water was very low so we skipped over many of the riffles and runs and focused our attention on the deeper holes. We had a great time catching all three species of black bass available, smallmouth, largemouth and the Kentucky. None of them were larger than 12", but their fighting ability and abundance are noteworthy. You could tell that these fish had not seen a fly and were eager to investigate. In the coming days, I will be checking other access points to this pretty stream and report my findings. Hope many of you can get out and fish in the coming days and weeks.... It's Bass Season!!
