This Sunday, April 1st, we'll hold our 'Season Opener' at Fairfield Lakes. We'll set up our canopy, coffee and donuts at about 7am. Come whenever you like and stay as long as you like. Bring some flies to swap and a chair to relax and gab in. The weather's looking great so far.
The parking lot is unchained and open at daylight, whenever the parks folks consider it daylight of course.
See you all there!

I really planning to be there but things in life are not so good. I was so looking forward to coming up to fish and chat with you all. Yesterday I was installing a new heavy trailer hitch. The jack slipped and drop the 35 pound hitch on my good foot! Broke 3 toes and possibly another bone in foot. I guess I'm getting to old to do a lot of stuff, I never thought I'd get like this. So I hope all who attend catch their limit and smile for the camera! Coop

I am planning on coming as long as I am not too sick. I may also bring my vise for some tying. Also is there a special permit needed to put a kayak on these lakes?

Coop. So sorry to hear about your misfortune. Hopefully we will be able to come down and fish in your area soon and set you up with a wheelchair boat. LOL Keep that heavy stuff away from the hands or fly tying and the making of your pens will surely be slowed down. I'm sure there will be many pics of giant rainbows posted on the site, that is because radioflyer is a master at photoshop.

I'm not sure but If your Kayak has a trolling motor like my Freedom Hawk Pathfinder 14 its has to registered with the DMV. Contact Officer from Tippecanoe Co. of DNR Law Enfocement to be safe, you likely will not need a lake permit.

Well I don't know how things turned out at the opener. I figured there would be a post by now. If not fish tails about giant trout at least something about Don falling in or maybe he just got all wet from the rain. When I first arrived the weather was looking pretty iffy. Out went the die hards but I made a big mistake, no ink in the printer and therefore I could not print out a license. DUH! Hope the guys didn't clean them out. Let's hear from you master fishermen. Get the pics for us to see.

Sorry I missed you Dave. Some of us came early and then got wet and chilly. We did enjoy the donuts Bob brought and several caught fish. I got two trouts, I know Don did great and of course Ray...well you know Ray...
Hope you all had a great time in spite of the wacky weather!

Radio, Have you ever seen Ray's corn kernel fly. Looks and feels and smells like the real thing. You should also know the saying, if looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck it is probably a duck. Enough said.

Yeah, I decided to sleep in when I saw the rain. The night before didn't help either It was a good time. My goal is to get Ashley on a fish soon

Is it classless to lay down a thread base on a size 12 and then glue a corn kernel to it?
Would the purest still object as you're pulling in hatchery trouts?

The purest would probably raise his nose to such a thought. Fishing for TAME FISH! Oh the insanity. I think a pellet fly might be in order also.

The season opener was great (even if the trout were TAME - if there is such a thing). I managed to land 5 of them, 4 crappie, and, of course, a little blue gill. Ray Tabert got to eat the crappie and said they were delicious and one was over a pound. Here is just a sampling! FF2c by donwerden, on Flickr FF 2a by donwerden, on Flickr
