Float and Fly is a cold water bass fishing technique. You can use it for any fish. The fly is usually a 1/16 ounce craft fur and feather jig. You cast this under a float using spinning gear. They usually use a rod that is at least 8 ft in length.

Here are some float and fly jigs from the Indiana Smallmouth Alliance site. Float and Fly is a winter smallmouth fishing technique. The jig is floated under a float and fished very slowly about 1 to 2 ft off the bottom. Tim Holschlag uses this method with a fly rod and has had some good success.

Ah ha, jig fishin! Float and fly is like calling a janitor a sanitary engineer. LOL don't understand where the "Fly" part comes in though? Fish for crappies like that all the time, with a 5' spinning rod a Jig and a bobber. But we call it jig fishin! Ok I'll quit razzin ya, and we'll call it float and fly.. still don't get the fly part.

I have had good luck using large dry flies for the floats in this winters mix. I use some large Dry Fly of Elk hair with a body of bright Z lion Orange, To that I use circa 6 feet of tippet of Varias 12 Lbs 1X to a Large Brass Bead Pheasant Tail Nymph or a Zebra Nymph. I Placed a little stick on foam strike indicator at the end of the leader. So that is a floater that is working for me on both Bass and Walleye. Not to bad to cast. I keep my eye on the indicator not the fly. Two fishes targets! I am using a 7 wt, 9 footer to fish for Bass. Fishing both streams and Strip Pits and this one is working. See ya all!

There is nothing wrong with jig fishing Krebsie. I have no problems with it. Seeing as I have been promoted from dumb arse truck driver to Transportation Relocating Specialist I thought there was no need for such comment. But, since you brought it up, I am wondering when you where going to come out of the closet and admit to jig fishing or using live bait with your fly rod. I have all ready come out and admitted to using rubber on a fly hook to catch fish.

So what brand do you like best? Also is the regular sweet kernel corn better than the sweet cream corn? I myself am a fan of the Fresh Lite brand.

They both suck compared to the fuse fly ;D (warning not to be used in heavily populated areas or near DNR personal) legal: poster disclaims ever using or having any knowledge of any such fly or materials contained within.
