Pat,
If we meet your wife, would it be a good idea to be in a very public place? Such as the Court House or Police station?

Rick:
Pat's wife (a.k.a. the mother in law) lived through many years of him being a serious golfer. This ain't nutthin!
Oh, I almost forget the years of bird dog trialing. That was before my time. Trust me, this is a woman that understands her husband and his vices.

My wife has made peace with my flyfishing...or so she says. Heck, I tell her...it beats collecting vintage automobiles! Cheaper too! Her hobby is cross stitch... a little cheaper than flyfishing.
But I DO have the kids trained. Whenever I get a package in the mail they hide it in my office from the wife. She's caught my son hiding packages before and has said it's ok...no need to hide them any longer. She's given up. Perhaps your wife will too someday...
I was reading on the FFF newsletter about a new book out written about and by spouses of flyfishers. Should be an interesting read...I'll buy it for my other half and post a review.

Rick; Trent's right. I think my wife has long since given up all hopes of retiring with some $ in the bank. My wife just shakes her head and puts up with me. Must be love. I think my wife and my daughter ARE a bit disappointed that my son-in-law seems to be headed in the same direction, however. I think they both had much higher goals for him. As I like to tell my daughter "Don't blame me. I just fish and hunt with him; YOU married him!" ;D From the beginning, I thought he had potential - just not in the way they thought! Pat

Not sure exactly how it goes, but I think it is like this. The thing I fear most about dying is that my wife will sell my fishing equipment for what I told her I paid for it.

I happened to stop by Pat's house at lunch (to pillage the in-laws food supply, of course) and his friendly neighborhood mail delivery person had dropped off his new fancy schmancy rotary vise (no jealousy at all, really). As soon at the tying tools made from the excavated remains of Excalibur arrive, he'll be churning out flies like nobody's business.

Hey T- If you like the vise, wait till you see the new roll-top desk Cathy bought me to put under it & the Ott light she got to make sure I don't strain my precious eyes and to make sure I see everything in "natural daylight" colors. Well, actually, we just got around to getting the desk/chair she had been looking for to go in the spare bedroom and I just "manipulated" it a bit - in favor of my new addiction, er, hobby. I AM still waiting for the danged tying tools or I would be tying right now; not well OR fast mind you but I would be tying something! Pat
