I'm curious to hear from you tyers if you have a dedicated table/desk that you use to tie your flies on or if, when the family goes to bed, you just use the kitchen table? Or, are you banned to the garage? Just to be clear: I'm talking about what you tie your flys on - not about tying one on which is a completely different thing. Pat

Krebsie;
Now, that's what I'm talking about! Did you make it or buy it?

It's a highly modified computer desk from Menards! It supports 2 yes 2, 1.7 watt epoxy rotaters. Three bearingless lazy susans, backed by an almost 24" square of pegboard. She's got 2 metal 6 drawer units purchased from the famous fly tying supply house, IKEA. Please notice the all plastic clamp on light which contains an enormous 100w bulb. I'm convinced that this is responsible for the thinning hair on the top of my head, gets a bit hot on top. ::)But all in all it's pretty functional for one. I bought a plastic TV tray at Wal mart and a battery powered Grill light at Lowes for the times when I need to be sociable with my family and still tie! Krebsie

Krebsie; Upon looking at your picture again - is it always that neat? I've always heard a neat (fly tying) desk is the sign of a sick mind. Just sayin'... Where's your sense of adventure? Who could even imagine finding what you wanted/needed when you actually needed it without pillaging the house/garage to find it. I'm not sure this level of organization is really for me. Just teasing - your set up looks very professional and easy to work at. Pat

Trent,
I don't have a "whole" room. More like half. I moved the roll top into a spare room when I got the lingerie chest for the hackles. It just didn't look right in the living room.
I got the roll top so I could just close it up to hide the mess.

Something is NOT RIGHT when a man uses a lingerie chest for fly tying materials, JUST NOT RIGHT!

Phishphinder,
What else is someone who has been married as long as we have use a lingerie chest for?
Besides it was FREE.

Uh, Rick - well, I couldn't think of ANY reason for a man to have a lingerie chest UNTIL you mentioned free. Then it became a non-gender specific, quite utilitarian storage object - and therefore perfectly usable for a guy. Having said that however, I think I'd probably still drop "lingerie" from the title when you tell other guys you're using one to keep your gear in! Just teasing, guy! Clearly you're into re-using resources and not just throwing things away! Now that's a good conservation tip! Pat

I am glad to see krebs has finally figured out how to post a picture.
The desk is even more impressive in person.

What do you mean. What I say about someone. Oh by the way, Krebs. Some guys use their wives lingerie chests to store tying material and some guys just can't find the time to tie flies because of what is in the lingerie chests.

Phishphinder, you wish! Krebsie, your fly-tying desk is always immaculate! I really don't see how you keep it so nice all the time. Here is a couple pictures of my corner of the basement; confined there by my wife save the kitties and unexpected company. I love this place, very peaceful and it's all mine! This is more the opposite end of organization, some might call this a catastrophie, but it works for me.

The thing with organization is; however you have your stuff arranged, it usually works best with the designer. Looks like you could put your hand on what you need with little fuss. Thanks for showing your tying area to us!
Anyone else?
